LET THEM BE UNDER GOD'S CURSE

"I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel" Galatians 1:6

DEVOTION 22nd June 2025, The Weakest Gospel.

Have you encountered a Gospel that promises joy without conviction, prosperity without repentance, and happiness without holiness? Sadly, such gospels abound, masquerading as truth and captivating audiences with superficial appeal. Those more concerned with fame and fortune than with faithful obedience to God’s Word often peddle them. But listen to the Word of God, cautioning everyone who turns away from the true Gospel. Let us heed Paul's scriptural warning in Galatians 1:6-9 NIV:

"[6] I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— [7] which is really no gospel at all. Evidently, some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. [8] But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! [9] As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!

In light of this scripture, consider this: a Gospel that fails to warn against sin, neglects repentance, or omits the reality of eternal hell and eternal life is a weak Gospel. Similarly, a Gospel that promises prosperity without hard work or blessings without obedience to God's Word is also weak.

The consequences of such distorted gospels are severe. Paul's words are clear: even an angel preaching a false gospel would be accursed. When we: Proclaim blessings without emphasising obedience, we invite curses. When we promise prosperity without hard work, we foster laziness and societal disorder. When we proclaim healing without encouraging medical attention, we put lives at risk. When we test God's faith without action, we risk eternal damnation.

A true Gospel, on the other hand, convicts and converts. It cuts through the heart of a sinner, humbling them for confession. Our pursuit should always be eternal life. We must reject weak gospels and teach solutions that cure our fallen nature.

As believers, we must be as discerning as the Berean Church in Acts 17:11, who diligently studied the Scriptures to test every gospel. We must approach every teaching and philosophy with wisdom, lest we become prey to false doctrines. Let us not entertain gospels that prioritise prosperity over eternal life or overlook the role of medical professionals in favour of healing ministries alone

Now Pray

Heavenly God, as a lost sinner and a believer searching for the true Gospel, I pray for wisdom to discern which Gospel will shape my life for eternal life. May Your Spirit continue to guide me into Your Word in Jesus' name.

Amen.
