"The reward of humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, honour, and life." Proverbs 22:4
You have heard it said many times, “Humility is the key to the King’s heart.” This statement holds when we desire something beyond our reach. We must always be humble when approaching these goals. For instance, children often humble themselves when requesting school fees or Christmas clothes.
Building on this concept, humility is crucial for success. Many fail to humble themselves when they face life’s challenges, but approaching God with humility is essential. As we reflect on our lives, the Bible reinforces this concept in 1 Peter 5:6-7, “Humble yourselves therefore under God’s mighty hands, that he may lift you up in due time.” By humbling ourselves, we open ourselves to God's guidance and protection. As Proverbs 22:4 promises, "The reward of humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, honour, and life." Similarly, James 4:10 calls us to "Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up."
In light of this, let us consider a practical example: if your child is sent home due to unpaid school fees, would you approach the head teacher with aggression or humility? Humility can make all the difference in resolving issues. Furthermore, in the workplace, humility is vital for maintaining positive relationships and retaining your job.
As we apply humility in our daily lives, it is essential to recognise its importance in all areas. Whether in leadership, marriage, family, workplace, or business, humility plays a crucial role. Take a moment to reflect: Are you humble enough in your interactions? Difficulties may arise from a lack of humility. How do you respond to that?
With this in mind, let us pray: Dear God, I acknowledge my weaknesses and recognise humility as a vital aspect of my life. Help me develop humility like Jesus, to face challenges with confidence and courage. Thank you for your guidance.
Amen.
