Leave Nimule Part 1

By  Ayella John Bosco.

A month ago, the residents of Nimule were taken by surprised seeing a team from the town council surveying the land. The team observably is made up of a police, the technician, record assistants and one town council official, while others including me are unhappy about the move taken by the government to survey Nimule Town, the unhappiness of the said shouldn’t be an obstacle to the anticipated organized development of the town.

There are several reasons why the people of Nimule can’t and shouldn’t resist the government's plans to demarcate Nimule. These reasons are purely economic, which is definitely unavoidable even after 50 years of struggles to oppose it. These economic hubs include, but are not limited to;

1.   The border revenue hub. Nimule houses the most unforgivable revenue hub that is inevitably the government stronghold of progress. Currently, Nimule revenue border contributes over 80 % of the government's revenues. These lucrative sites have attracted the government to deploy its staff and non-staff, comprising different ethnic groups, on the border. Where there is a high number of government officials, and a strong government economic stronghold, the government tends to elevate the statuesque of the area, hence Nimule is not an exception to this by any means.

2.  The National Park. Nimule Town has over 400 km². Area covered by wildlife. The park that was established in 70s is a national parastatal that can’t be ignored as a factor to elevate the town, due to its proximity. There is a need to develop good visiting welfare services, good road connection into the part, create a better security services to the tourists, have better recreational centers around the park, these all call for a better view of a town, including the above factor, Nimule doesn’t escape the intentions of the government

     The Fulla waterfalls are the greatest power-producing source in the country, even if there is opposition from countries like Egypt and Uganda in regards to the construction of the dam, the next generation that will arise will surely get the power energy constructed. The same will attract both investors and the local populace in the town, hence the government won’t let such businesses be disorganised by resistance from the local people

   The strategic security location. Nimule is strategically located in terms of security. The natural protection should not be ignored. The SPLA from 1983 to 2005 survived defeat in Nimule; it used Nimule as a hub for reorganisation to fight the Arabs. Additionally, no militia has ever fought a successful battle over Nimule because of its natural protection by the River in the West and the international boundary in the south. The strategic benefit can not allow a sound government to sit back, so the people should stop resisting something they can not succeed in.

This is solely my Observation, and the opinion is neither against the government nor the community getting affected. Follow me for why surveying Nimule is important apart from the idea that the locals will lose lands.
