An article to encourage you to fully be a church member
Are you a member or considering
becoming a member of an association or a club? Being a member of an association
or a community is essential for social growth and a sense of belonging, as
every individual seeks identity, purpose, and security within a larger social
framework. Even growing children naturally desire to join groups that provide
order and shared values. Collaboration continues to be a vital element of
success, as no visionary person can flourish in isolation. In the same way,
biblical figures such as Paul, who worked with Timothy and Barnabas,
demonstrated the power of membership. Likewise, Jesus, who chose twelve
apostles, also highlighted the importance of partnership and teamwork. Contextually,
for believers today, participation in a local church is vital for spiritual
maturity, identity development, restoration, and obedience to God's command to fellowship.
Active membership not only fosters
growth but also strengthens one’s accountability and commitment to the faith
community. An adage says, “No man is an island.” This means that we all need
each other to coexist, relate, and grow. God desires that His children grow
spiritually. Like a seedling that needs water, air, and light to grow
healthily, a believer needs the counsel of colleagues to challenge their life
and hold them accountable. This goal is best achieved by joining a church where
one can experience the counsel of others and grow. You need this.
When one becomes a member of an
association, they relate well because of their clear identity. Although they
might not share a sense of belonging equal to that of their leaders, they live
with confidence and enjoy every privilege the association offers. You cannot be
a believer and not be a member of a local church. You cannot enjoy the
privileges given to the church by Christ if you do not identify with a local
church. Remember, you are an adopted child of God, destined for glorification.
This adoption is strengthened and perfected only when you identify yourself
with a local church.
The Bible describes the church as a
body that functions interconnectedly with a purpose. God has given each of us a
purposeful gift. Many people fail to discover or use these gifts correctly
because they are not active members of a church. In the field of music, one
missing chord disorganizes the symphony. Failing to discover or utilize our
gifts properly endangers our sense of purpose. Do you have a purpose to live
out? If you have a purpose or are yet to discover one, then the church is where
you can discover and live out that purpose.
Many people are hurt every day and
find no better healing in their lives. The church provides divine medicine for
wounded souls and spirits. Good physicians and therapists can treat wounds, but
the church heals both the wounds and scars through the power of God. The prayer
and the Word of God that the church offers heal more deeply than any medicine a
doctor in a hospital can provide. If this belief is true—and it is—why do you
still hold back from becoming a member of the church? Do you not want free
healing? Come on, find and become a member of a church and enjoy the healing
power of God for your hurts.
Is not fellowshipping a form of
obedience? When a president makes a decree, every citizen obeys. Well, you have
an obligation to meet and fellowship as an act of obedience to God’s call.
Through the writer of Hebrews, God reminds His children never to forget the
gathering of all the saints (Hebrews 10:25). If we love, then we need to obey
Him. We can obey God and fellowship if we are members of a church. What do you
think? With that in mind, let us become part of the church and fellowship as an
act of obedience to God.
Therefore, church membership is more important than membership in any other association. As the unwatered crops that do not grow, yield, and ultimately dry up when no rescue is given, a believer experiences the same fate. While God did not promise a perfect life in this world, we have the obligation to strive for a better one. This takes our response to heed his call to a church membership. To grow strong in all aspects of life, to live with a clear identity, to live out your purpose well, to heal from all the hurts of the soul and spirit, and to obey God in lifestyle, you need to join a church and participate actively.
