CHRIST'S SUPREMACY: Finding Strength in God's Word and Compassionate High Priest

THE SUPREMACY OF CHRIST: Finding Strength in God's Word and a Compassionate High Priest A Devotional Study of Hebrews 4:12-18 Many books offer powerful motivations when we read, but they do not have a lasting effect on us. This is because the words they contain are man’s words. They are powerful but only affect the head and never the heart. The book of Hebrews offers profound insights into the nature of God's Word and the compassionate ministry of Jesus Christ, our Great High Priest. Hebrews 4:12-18 presents two pivotal themes that are essential for believers: the power of Scripture and the confidence we have in approaching God through Jesus. This devotional study will explore these themes, providing encouragement and guidance for living out our faith.   The Power of God's Word (Hebrews 4:12-13) Hebrews 4:12 reminds us that "the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of m...

THE CONSEQUENCES OF UNBELIEF- Lack of faith and trust in God

Devotion Scripture: Hebrews 4:1-10   Devotional Thoughts Have you ever been warned about circumstances you should obey but did not obey? Mothers normally warn their children about the danger of fire. A child who disobeys the warning faces severe consequences of fire burns.   The book of Hebrews warns us about the consequences of unbelief. In Hebrews 4:1-10, we see the example of Israel, which failed to enter God's rest because of their unbelief. Despite hearing God's promises, they did not enter due to disobedience and a lack of faith. This passage urges us to be diligent in entering God's rest through faith. God's rest signifies a state of trust, peace, and completeness in Him. It is a rest that results from trusting in God's finished work and promises.   The theme of rest in Hebrews 4 connects to God's rest after creation in Genesis 2:2. Just as God rested from His work, believers are invited to enter a rest of faith, ceasing from their own wor...

ADUT'S APPOINTMENT: A Significant Step towards Improving the First Family's Image

LET US GIVE ADUT A TRY Article by Abunerry, Ayella John Bosco 21st August, 2025  Many people have mixed reactions to Adut Salva Kiir, the president's daughter, being appointed as the presidential envoy for special programmes. Some view this as nepotism and cronyism, while others consider it a state capture. According to Mr Ateny Wek Ateny, who called it “Wun Weng” ("owner of the cow"), meaning the owner has arrived to protect the cow from danger. In this context, Adut's appointment is seen as a move to restore the first family's image, which is struggling due to individuals posing as allies but seeking personal gain from the state treasury.  While many disagree with the appointment, I hold a different view. By law, Adut has the right to receive funding as a first-family member without holding any official position in the country. However, this right does not override her legal right to also work as an employee in the state she is bound to serve, like any oth...

RESPONSE TO ENG. JOSEPH GAMA OKELLO: Context and Consideration of Palestinians

By Abunerry, Ayella John Bosco 19th August 2025 On 18th August 2025, Eng. Joseph Gama stated, “I'm for the resettlement of Palestinians in South Sudan. It must be organised with opportunities for them to integrate into the communities. Those of you who have been refugees and got opportunities to resettle in Australia, America, Canada, etc., will agree with me. Our perceptions from the liberation struggle against the Arabs shouldn't cloud our hearts for humanity.” I wish to respond to Eng. Gama based on three of his strengths: his intellect, his government authority as an official, and his role as a community leader. This response is not an attack but rather rooted in mutual love for patriotism and a correct understanding of what a public figure like him should embody. 1. As an intellectual, Gama can analyse situations in the Middle East and reach tangible conclusions. However, he has diminished his intellectual stature. He did not distinguish between the need to relocate ...

THE INCARNATION OF GOD.

A Reflection on Thoughts about God's Humanity Introduction The Incarnation of Christ is a complex subject that is difficult to fully grasp. Many believe in God’s divinity but reject His person. However, John records the incarnation of Jesus, saying, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” One of the professors, Stephen J. Wellum, states, “To think rightly about the incarnation, we must also reflect on the Son’s relation to the Father and the Spirit.” (Pg. 153, The Person of Christ, An Introduction). This truth requires careful study and understanding.   Key Aspects of Christ's Incarnation in Hebrews Moving on to key aspects of Christ’s incarnation highlighted in the Book of Hebrews, we find several important points.   His Worship In Hebrews 1:6, the Lord speaks through the writer, saying, “...Let all God’s angels worship him.” Although there is no specific ment...

"Disconnect Between Political Parties and the People in South Sudan: A Hindrance to Genuine Peace"

OPINION by Aggrey Cyrus Kanyikwa Date: 10.8.2025 The creation of many parties in South Sudan is a disguise and swirled gamble. Emerging from a liberation struggle with one political movement and military was a great test for South Sudan. It has struggled to position itself in a multiparty and democratic system. The rush of political parties and movements has spiralled to outweigh the SPLM in an insurrection for control of power and resources without gaining mass support. Individuals or groups of individuals form or gather to form political parties or movements to position themselves on opportunities for power and resource control at the expense of the people. This surge of political parties and movements attempts to use firepower or obstructive political mobilisation to win recognition and power for themselves, regardless of whether their actions favour the people or not. These political parties and movements are either formed in the capital, Juba, state capitals or foreign cities with...

SOUTH SUDAN: The Land Flowing with Tears and Blood

Opinion by Kenyi Yasi  Advocate and human rights lawyer Kenyi Yasin Abdallah Kenyi has described South Sudan as “a God-blessed nation, abundantly endowed with gold, oil, fertile land, and untapped resources” that should be flowing with prosperity, opportunity, and hope, but instead “flows only with tears and blood.” Kenyi said that under what he called the “kleptocratic rule of President Salva Kiir”, the country has sunk into poverty, chronic underdevelopment, and hopelessness. He asserted that Kiir’s government does not serve the people of South Sudan but instead serves foreign mercenaries such as the Ugandan People’s Defence Force (UPDF), leaving citizens trapped in suffering. He alleged that Kiir’s administration is “not a government, but a cartel of desperate thieves—the worst of the worst—whose only legacy is corruption, tribalism, oppression, and misery.” According to Kenyi, the regime has “blackmailed its own people while auctioning South Sudanese land to foreign interests...

THE SUPERIORITY OF CHRIST: Crowned with Glory and Honour

Devotion 8/8 Scripture: Hebrews 2:5-8 (NIV):   Devotional thoughts Hebrews 2:5-8 highlights the profound intention God has for humanity. In discussing the superiority of Jesus over angels, the writer of Hebrews points out that God did not subject the world to come to angels. Instead, humanity is the intended heir of God's creation. This passage quotes Psalm 8, emphasising God's care for humanity despite our relative smallness compared to the vastness of creation.   God's Plan for Humanity: The passage underscores that God made humans "a little lower than the angels" but crowned them with "glory and honour". This shows God's high regard for humanity and His intention for humans to have dominion over creation. God put everything under humanity's feet, indicating a position of authority and stewardship over the world.   Crowned with Glory and Honour: The concept of being crowned with glory and honour speaks to the dignity and value God pla...

NEVER NEGLECT YOUR SALVATION

Devotion 7/8 Hebrews 2:1-4 Do you believe that salvation cannot be lost? But do you know that while saved, you will face God's righteous judgement? And do you understand that God does not rejoice in sin, even though He saves you? Are you aware that you have the responsibility to uphold your salvation with integrity and honesty? To answer these questions correctly, let us turn to the Bible to see what it has to say. Those who believe in the Name of the Lord Jesus are indeed saved, as the Bible states. However, we must work diligently to maintain this salvation. Many believe that salvation cannot be lost, but must we neglect it? Certainly not! God's Word warns us against neglecting it or drifting away. Hebrews 2:2 says, “... and every transgression and disobedience receives a just reward.” In addition, God’s Word continues saying, “How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation...” Vs3. Believers should recognise the power and authority of salvation and obey its com...

THE SUPERIORITY OF CHRIST: The Unchanging Eternal Creator

Devotion 6/8   Scripture: Hebrews 1:10-14.  Days, weeks, or years keep passing; crops and vegetation change, and people grow and die. This reflects the essence of created beings and natures. It is no surprise to see a village transform into a city or a mountain feature become a plain. These changes are inevitable. Creations are destined to change over time and through geographical shifts.  However, this differs from the essence of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Let us turn to the Word of God to understand why. The writer of Hebrews states that Jesus laid the foundation of the earth in 1:10. This implies that Christ is the creator of all things, and, therefore, He shapes creation rather than creation shaping Him. All that He created will perish (verse 11); He can fold all of them like a cloak and change them, but He never changes (verse 12). He exists permanently because He is not created. The unchanging essence and nature of Christ emphasise His superiority.  It is so...

THE SUPERIORITY OF CHRIST: A Sceptre of Righteousness

Illustration only.  Devotion 5/8: Hebrews 1:8. "But to the Son He says, 'Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of Your kingdom.'   To understand this text well, let us define the new term “sceptre”. What is a sceptre? A sceptre is a symbolic rod – a rod signifies guidance biblically. As we continue to explore Hebrews, we find Christ described as a sceptre of righteousness. Though symbolic, this concept carries deep meaning related to Christ's superiority. Building on this, let us consider what it means when God describes His Son as "a sceptre of righteousness". Scripture states, "Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of Your kingdom." This passage highlights Jesus' royal authority, emphasising that His throne is eternal. It also exemplifies that Jesus stands above all else. Among God's creations, Jesus alone is given bona fide royal authority abov...

THE LETTER OF CHRIST: Known and Read by All

DEVOTION 4/8   2 Corinthians 3:2 says, "You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men." Brothers and Sisters, The best letter I can remember receiving was from my fiancĂ© between 1998 and 1999. I kept the letter for many years because of its heartfelt content. Many people of that era would understand how cherished letters were in those days. Today, writing letters has largely given way to technological advances, with phone calls now often used as an alternative. This makes it difficult to store and read a person's heartfelt words.   In his letter to the Corinthians, Paul expressed disappointment because the Christians' lives did not portray the content of their hearts. He reminded them that they are a living letter, which everyone knows and reads. A letter written in the heart, written for Christ, not with ink but with the Holy Spirit. Thus, their lives should serve as a public testament to their faith in Christ.   As we reflect on what...

REST BEYOND THE RIVER

Devotion Three/August   “Until the Lord has given your brethren rest, as He has given you, and they also have possessed the land which the Lord your God gives them, then you shall return to the land of your possession and enjoy it, which Moses the Lord’s servant gave you on this side of the Jordan toward the east.” - Joshua 1:15 Rest is a valuable part of life because it allows us to relax, recharge, and refresh. As a result, we gain new energy and confidence for the tasks ahead. This is simply the rest that ends when we need to engage in other things. Several biblical passages called the Israelites to enter or embrace rest. They were called to observe the Sabbath day of rest, mirroring God’s rest.   However, despite these calls to rest, the Israelites have never truly experienced rest because of the challenges they faced and their disobedience. This brings us to an important realisation that true rest awaits after struggles and hardships with obedience.   It is n...
