Devotion 1/8
Scripture: Hebrews 1:3-4
Introduction
In most cases, we meet people who exalt or glorify others because they are either friends or relatives. Sometimes, they are honoured due to their achievements or professionalism. This can be positive, but exceeding a certain limit can encourage pride, which can eventually lead to downfall. Just as Satan, who exalted himself, was cast down by God.
Reflection Thoughts
Then, with that in mind, let us turn to the Word of God and see why Christ was exalted. While friends or relatives are exalted because they achieve professionalism, Christ was exalted because of His divine nature—a nature that no one, not even the angels or the prophets, possesses. He was also exalted because of His redemptive work: He purified humanity through shedding His blood on the cross for the forgiveness of sin, which supersedes the traditional ways of cleansing with animal blood. Therefore, as we reflect on our relationship with Christ, we should exalt Him by worshipping His name, trusting in His redemptive power, and submitting to His authority. We should worship Him through our words, actions, and lives. We should trust Him alone for the forgiveness of sin through His shed blood and submit to Him alone because of His superiority, with a name above every name (Philippians 2:9). Not like the way others do.
Life Application
Given this, since God challenges us to exalt Christ alone because of His divine nature and redemptive work that no one or angel can match, what advice would you give to people who exalt themselves or replace the name of God out of pride? What lessons would you share with people who still sacrifice animals for purification purposes?
Conclusion
In conclusion, although there are individuals we might exalt in our lives or submit to for various reasons, let Christ, who is rightly exalted, be our supreme and final authority because of His divine nature and redemptive work. We have only one superior to exalt—that is Christ. Let us not replace His divinity with anyone else, but instead, give Him the worship, trust, and submission He deserves.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for reminding us about the divinity of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, and His redemptive works. Thank you for reminding us that He alone deserves worship, trust, and submission because He is superior to anyone. May you continue to help us guide others who replace Christ's divinity with pride and exalt themselves above him. Thank you. Amen.
