Debate is an engaging activity that every student should eagerly embrace as part of their learning journey. It offers numerous benefits, including sharpening speaking skills, fostering social cohesion, and building confidence. Through debating, students sharpen their communication skills as they learn how to position themselves effectively before an audience, use gestures that capture attention, construct sentences correctly, and refine their grammar. With continued participation, a student gradually becomes more eloquent and confident in speech. Debates also help strengthen social cohesion. ...

A Maasai of Kenya By Abunerry, Ayella 28-10-2025 I saw a video circulating online from Ghana, where a school took its students to salons to have their long hair shaved. The incident backfired, with some criticising and others applauding the move. I would rather not engage in the argument, but I have found myself a victim of a similar situation, as we once experienced the same scene in one of the schools I attended. Those who criticised the shaving of students’ hair called it “colonialism”, while others stood by the school’s policy. It took me twelve hours to conduct personal research and gather important facts about long hair. In this case, I want to limit the fact-finding to the students who are most affected when issues related to hair shaving arise. My argument is a balanced one that looks at both the physical and academic effects of long hair. These include cultural identity, self-expression, confidence, and protection. Introduction I was puzzled that the faithful in Magwi Payam organised a two-day prayer and fasting about the rampant accidents occurring in the area. They attribute accidents to the black spirits, with some attesting to it. While these allegations might be true, I disagree with Faithful’s prayers to prevent accidents. There are reasons accidents occur, ranging from recklessness to poor road signs and development. Prayers offered to prevent accidents are like chasing the wind that we cannot catch unless we address the real issues, such as improving road signs, road development, sensitisation, and education. Have you ever thought of asking your pastor to request God to put your name in the Book of Life ? Well, the Israelites complained to Moses that they wanted to access and see God, the One they believed had helped them escape Egypt . The call deafened Moses to the point that he consulted God for an answer. When that time came, the people were frightened because the appearance of God was beyond their sight. Since then, they never longed to see God because He could not be approached with a sinful nature. The distance between the Israelites and God widened over time due to ongoing sin. Thousands of years later, God sent Christ to bridge the gap. Through His blood, He opened a way into God's presence. DEVOTION, 08/10/2025 Text: Hebrews 10:1-18 In many traditional societies, we encounter various types of sacrifices. I have seen many forms of rituals. Others offered chickens, goats, and sheep. This type of sacrifice is done whenever a bad event is about to happen or has already occurred. It is either to prevent an impending death or destruction or to purify people from death or diseases. However, these sacrifices never truly purified or prevented events, as they continued to recur.   The Israelites followed similar practices, offering burnt sacrifices, fellowship sacrifices, and sin or guilt sacrifices. The high priest did that on behalf of the people. Yet, it was a frequent practice that led to the killing of many animals. The Old Testament sacrificial system did not make perfect those who drew near (10:2). It did not take away sins. Children attended school under trees as construction for a permanent building continued. Health centres were established in every unit. The villagers enjoyed relative peace. But this quietness was interrupted. In July 2016, voices began to travel through the air, landing on each villager's ears. A voice that called for destruction rather than reconstruction.
