"Ride Less, Walk More." Bishop Paride Taban.
Everyone desires a better and healthier life, but following health routines is as difficult as drinking water. Living healthily requires adopting better ways of living. So, how can one live healthily for a better life? Have you thought of the physical, the emotional, and the spiritual development to maintain excellent health? In this article, I have provided free advice to follow on how to live a healthy lifestyle regardless of your age or commitments.
To live healthily, rest is a vital asset. Staying awake and having minimal rest, such as during sleep or post-work relaxation, can make one unhealthy as their mind becomes clouded with fatigue. Rest is a remedy for any ill health caused by tiredness.
Stress and distress require regular exercise. Many suffer strokes and other illnesses due to a lack of regular physical activity, which is common among people who consume excess fat. We should allocate at least 30 minutes to an hour daily for exercise. Exercise reduces stress-inducing factors and keeps one alert. Overplanning or fear of failure increases stress and distress; physical exercise can help resolve this.
Another essential element of living healthily is avoiding or reducing the intake of fast foods. These foods are high in lipids and acidity and are harmful to health. Avoid them whenever possible. Consuming sugary, fatty, and acidic foods is a detrimental health habit. Opt for fresh foods at all times.
People often undervalue the importance of water. Biologically, the body loses water in many ways, through digestion and excretion. You should drink water even if you do not feel thirsty. You need a maximum of two litres of water per day. Drink water to stay hydrated and maintain excellent health.
Drugs such as alcohol contain harmful substances that degrade your system each time you drink. Smoking and other habits also contribute to health problems. You can continue these habits and risk severe health issues or quit to stay healthy.
Have you ever considered focusing on fresh foods from the garden? Fruits like avocados and oranges, and vegetables like spinach, are true remedies for good health. Comparing a villager with someone in the town reveals different health strengths.
Even if you have all the above, lacking spiritual training means you are unwell. The Bible encourages physical exercise as beneficial to the body, but spiritual exercises benefit not only the body but also the soul, mind, and overall spiritual well-being. You need moments dedicated to God’s Word, fellowship, and study to grow and remain healthy.
Desiring to live a healthy life does not have any different magical formulae. In 2018, an MC asked the late Bishop Emeritus, Paride Taban, “What is the secret to his healthy living?” He replied jokingly, “Ride less, walk more.” Having enough bed rest, regular exercise, avoiding fast foods, and frequent spiritual training, among others, are good habits for healthy living, costing fewer or no pennies. This is a piece of advice from experience. I am younger than my age because I always try to live honestly according to my health demands.
