Text: Hebrews 10:21-24
Hello brothers and sisters,
How do you access God's presence? Have you ever thought of asking your pastor to request God to put your name in the Book of Life?
Well, the Israelites complained to Moses that they wanted to access and see God, the One they believed had helped them escape Egypt. The call deafened Moses to the point that he consulted God for an answer. When that time came, the people were frightened because the appearance of God was beyond their sight. Since then, they never longed to see God because He could not be approached with a sinful nature. The distance between the Israelites and God widened over time due to ongoing sin.
Thousands of years later, God sent Christ to bridge the gap. Through His blood, He opened a way into God's presence. This time, not through animal sacrifices as had been the practice, but by accessing God's throne with a true heart in full assurance of faith, as stated in Hebrews 10:22. The heart that is sprinkled and washed with clean water—the blood of Jesus (10:23). To access God, we must hold fast to our professed faith without wavering and demonstrate love for one another through good works (10:24).
Far away from that, many people tend to assess God through various media. People trust their pastors and the dead, called the saints, to link them to God. Such an approach contravenes the work of Christ, who has paved the way for them. Christ is the only mediator between God and man, not a pastor or the gifts you use to seek forgiveness. It does not make sense to trust an imperfect person like oneself to access the presence of God.
What matters is the true heart of faith, the confessional heart, the loving heart, and the heart that is cleansed by the sprinkled blood and water—put, the heart filled with the Holy Spirit. With that in mind, reflect on your life. How have you been accessing the presence of God? How does it help you trust your pastor or the imperfect saints accessing God for you? Well, they might help in terms of telling you the Word of God, but they cannot give access to God because Jesus is the only one.
As we reflect on our lives, let us remember that our access to God's presence is not through human intermediaries or rituals, but through the blood of Jesus Christ. May we hold fast to our faith, demonstrate love for one another, and approach God's throne with confidence, knowing that we are cleansed and forgiven through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Dear God,
We thank you for the forgiveness of our sins through your Son, Jesus Christ. We are grateful that we can now access your throne because your Son has destroyed the curtain that used to block our connections. Thank you for reminding us to draw near you through a true heart of faith, holding fast to the confession of our faith, demonstrating love to one another so that we can approach you with CONFIDENCE. Amen.
