Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. 1 Timothy 4:12
One of Central Africa
Baptist University's values emphasises change in conduct for a great commission
living. This is true for every aspiring leader in different fields. It is one
reason Paul wrote to Timothy, challenging him to walk his talk, the public
conduct. What is conduct?
Conduct
encompasses our actions, behaviours, and mannerisms in public, including
movement styles, dress code, and physical postures. According to the Advanced
Oxford Dictionary, it refers to a manner of acting or controlling oneself.
As a leader, Paul
advised Timothy to exhibit modesty in his public life. Recognising the
importance of good conduct, Paul emphasised its significance in effective
leadership. Timothy's actions and self-control in public would attract
attention and garner respect. Do your actions and self-control attract
attention and respect?
Good conduct is
crucial for leaders, as it reflects their character and influences those they
lead. Paul's guidance to Timothy highlights the need for exemplary behaviour,
demonstrating that leadership requires attention to detail in all aspects of
life. Will you mind your public life as you venture into leadership?
As we reflect on
our conduct, let us consider how our actions and behaviours influence those
around us. How can we exhibit modesty, self-control, and good leadership in
our daily lives? How accountable are you each day of your life? Does your
life align with your divine call principles and truths?
