A Guide to Effective Leadership

Devotion Twenty-Nine

Proverbs 11:2—"When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.”

Dear brothers and sisters,

Do you believe that everyone was born humble? Unfortunately, as we grow, we begin to be protective and drive our agenda above others because of the urge for superiority. Consider the story of Satan, who was once humble but developed arrogance after being assigned a prestigious position. His lack of humility led to his downfall.

As Proverbs 11:2 reminds us, "When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.” Humility is one of the key principles for effective leadership. We cannot govern the church of God or an organisation if we do not possess this truth. As leaders, we should strive to possess the humility that puts us right with God, like Christ, who humbled Himself to the point of death to be exalted. Therefore, let us leaders reflect on our leadership styles and ask ourselves: Are we serving others, or are we seeking to be served?

May we continually surrender our hearts and minds to the Lord, allowing Him to cultivate humility within us. By doing so, we will not only become more effective leaders but also reflections of Christ's love and humility to those around us. Let us emulate the humility of Christ and lead with wisdom, compassion, and servant-heartedness.

As you go about your day, remember to practice humility in your interactions, prioritize listening and serving others. Seek feedback from trusted colleagues or mentors on your leadership style. Reflect on how Jesus led and served others, and strive to emulate His example.

Reflection Questions:

  1. 1. How can I cultivate humility in my leadership role?
  2. 2. In what ways can I serve others instead of seeking to be served?
  3. 3. How can I emulate Christ's humility in my daily interactions?

May the Lord grant us the grace to lead with humility, compassion, and wisdom, reflecting Christ's love to a world in need. As we strive to emulate His humility, may our leadership be marked by servant-heartedness, kindness, and a deep commitment to serving others. May God bless and empower us as we seek to lead like Christ.

Prayer.

Lord, grant me the grace to lead with humility, to serve with compassion, and to reflect Christ's love to those around me. Help me to continually surrender my heart and mind to You, and to cultivate humility within me.

Amen.
